This Webinar is hosted by the Southern University System (SUS) and target particularly the Council of Chairs and Program Leaders throughout the SUS. As our System institutions (SUBR, SUNO, SUSLA, SU-LC, SU-Ag) strive to develop and deploy quality online programs, the office of online services found it necessary to host a training webinar focusing on best practices for designing and launching undergraduate and graduate online programs.


Ms. Maricel Lawrence has more than 10 years of experience working with adult learners, having taught Spanish and trained language instructors at Berlitz in Indianapolis. She worked in the IT sector before joining the Purdue Online team in 2015. Maricel played a key role in designing Purdue Online’s strategy and in developing undergraduate online courses, professional master’s degrees and MOOCs (Massive Open Online Course ). She has led several system-wide online efforts, such as National Distance Learning Week, to increase student and faculty awareness and knowledge about online education. In addition to online courses and programs, Maricel has experience creating online student orientation, online training sessions for academic advisors, as well as training sessions on online teaching for faculty.



Professor Moustapha Diack is the Associate Vice President for Online Learning Services for the Southern University System (SUS). He is co-founding Chair of the Practitioners Summit for Advancing Affordable Learning Solutions and Quality Online Education for HBCUs, integral part of the OLC/MERLOT International Conference. His research interests at Southern University are in the areas of Instructional Design, cognitive theory of multimedia learning and the strategic planning and deployment of online learning systems to enhance student learning outcomes. Diack has extensive experience in the areas of online learning design and delivery and has played a global leadership role in the areas of Open Education and Open Access. He is recipient of the International MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching) Innovation Award 2009. He is member of the Quality Matter International Advisory.
